Who are we?
The National Play Festival brings theatre-makers, producers and audiences together in an annual celebration of Australian playwriting and theatre. Presenting a curated season of the most exciting new Australian plays from around the country, as well as special presentations, discussions and industry symposia; the Festival honours the role of new writing as a critical, living part of our story-telling culture.
Travelling each year to a new location, the 2012 National Play Festival will be held in Melbourne – a UNESCO City of Literature and home to an enormously diverse and renowned performing arts community. From Melbourne’s Malthouse Theatre we will be exploring the ways Australian playwrights and theatre companies can connect globally. We’ll also take a special look at how new writing can be a marvelous prism to understand our place in the world.
The National Play Festival is presented by PlayWriting Australia, the national peak body for writing for the stage with a mission to see more, high quality Australian plays on stages here and overseas. To find out more about PlayWriting Australia visit our website.
